After receiving several complaints about not updating regularly enough I will now take some time out of my busy, busy, busy schedual to do so. On one condition: I want some more comments! I don’t want to feel like this is all for nothing.
However, nothing terribly interesting has been going on since I’m now working a lot more. Though that does make you discover new things. Like for example that you cannot teach children English during a lightning storm, since they will all be screaming, crying for their mommies and wanting to go home. Though I must say I was thinking much the same as lightning still is not my favourite of weather types.
Just a few minutes ago I accomplished a new personal achievement. Which is ordering food by telephone from the local Chinese fast food restaurant. I did it once before but I had an ‘interpreter’ for back-up. This time however it was a solo flight, but I have a strategy. Write down your whole dialogue and repeat until they understand. But I heard the dreaded words…
Mei you (don’t have).
So I repeated my dialogue a few more times and got a few more ‘don’t haves’. Then they started asking me some questions and I repeated a few more times until they gave up and asked for my address. I’m still waiting for my food though, let’s hope it arrives at some point.
Still I wish they had mayonnaise in China. They do, but not in places like the MacDonalds. For you see, I would love to ask them in Chinese if they have any mayo (the pronunciation for ‘mayo’ and ‘mei you’ are the same). You could have a hilarious conversation around this whole thing. Or at least in my imagination you could.
You mei you mayo? Mei you? Mayo? You mei you?
It would be the ideal revenge. And excuse me, in my head this sounds a whole lot funnier than it looks.
But hurrah! My food just arrived.

jammer dat je nu in china zit. ik ben benieuwd wat al die chinezen nu in de tuin zeggen. maar wie weet komen ze ook in november nog…

Ha Paul, gelijk maar een antwoord, want ik ben blij met deze update, want je leek het wel vergeten te hebben. Hier is alles goed, weinig onweer, dus ook weinig regen. Weet je nog toen jij klein was en het onweerde. Ik weet dat nog wel, het was heel ontroerend!.
Maar je Chinees wordt dus steeds beter. Zouden ze daar jou ook napraten. zoals wij hier doen met hun uitspraak betreffende de lettel R. En mayo kan je heel goed zelf maken, kan je het aanbieden bij de de macdonalds.

leuk om te lezen dat het goed met je gaat en erg leuke anekdotes :) ik ben inmiddels aan het afstuderen en mijn scriptie gaat over jouw vakgebied, grafisch vormgeven (wie had dat gedacht :p)

Alles cool? Ik las net op nu.nl dat mannen met de voornaam paul meer aan partnerruil doen dan andere mannen. Wat deden we voor er internet was, toen wisten we dit soort nuttige feitjes niet???? De zomervakantie is afgelopen en het lijkt nog steeds komkommertijd in de media. Hier is t ontzettend koud, bijna handschoenen weer. Jakko en ik hebben vandaag wel gewindsurft, of in ieder geval, poging tot windsurfen. Wel met wetsuit natuurlijk, hoe dan ook moest ik daarna wel een halfuur onder de douche staan om mijn pootjes te ontdooien.
Morgen maar weer eens gaan kijken hoe het in punta cana is. Heb in ieder geval al genoeg leesvoer meegenomen om al die dagen op het strand door te gaan komen. En ik neem mn laptop mee, dus misschien kom ik je nog een keertje tegen op skype, oh nee, je had geen internet toch nog? Dan bel ik wel op je telefoon.

Je snapt nu wel dat we zitten te wachten op foto’s! En aangezien we meer comments moeten leveren zal ik mijn steentje bijdragen.
Hier is alles goed. Was leuk afgelopen zondag om nog in het water te liggen. Vind wel dat Caro zichzelf aanstelt. Ik had maar een kwartier nodig om te ontdooien onder de douche :D
Met Suus gaat ook alles goed. Het kan iedere moment gebeuren. Het levert de nodige spanningen op, maar aan de andere kant zijn we ook heel benieuwd! Laat snel wat van je horen T.O.

Ah thanks for the replies everyone. I’m glad my threats are being taken seriously. As some of you may have heard I got my own apartment now here in China and I’ll get some pictures of it posted right away. I left my camera with Linda in Guangzhou unfortunately and not everything is finished yet. We spent the day de-Chinaizing the place to make it look less like a prison and more like a house, they like their bars in front of windows here.
I also don’t have internet yet and also no TV so my goodness, I’m probably going to actually get some stuff done.
So stay tuned for those pictures, I’ll try my best.
